A few years ago I was sitting in the back of a $10,000 mastermind wondering why I felt more empty than when I walked in.

Ever had that feeling after attending one of those?

Posturing. Performance. Everyone trying to show everyone how smart they are. 

Or a weekened with an agenda more packed than your wife's last "vacation." Kayaking, constant talking, everyone crammed in a house and you can't escape.

It's exhausting. 

I'd done the retreats. The warrior weeks, where some fake navy seal yelled at everyone to man-up. The masterminds where everyone is talking about how many zeros they've got behind their revenue and never talk about prophets. The nervous system workshops that turn into victimhood contests. The journeys with shamans and god knows whatever is in the cup they are passing around.

Some of it moved something. Most of it didn't. None of it gave me what I actually needed, which was to sit around a fire with a room of men I respected, drop the performance, and be seen.

Then came the thing that actually changed everything.

For ten years I'd been part of something special. Every year a group of us took a houseboat to Dale Hollow Lake in Tennessee. No agenda. No whiteboards.

No vision statements (although visions were always cast). No masterminds (although big challenges were often solved).

Just good men, a fire, cigars, nature, and the kind of conversations that only happen when the guards come all the way down.

It was something real.

Every year we invited two new men. And every year the new men said the same things.

"I didn't know I needed this."

"This is the best thing I've ever done."

"I wish I had this a couple times a year."

"Why doesn't everyone run retreats this way?"

Finally, I listened and decided to build it.

We ran the first one in June 2026, in a mountain house outside Golden, Colorado. Fifteen men. Four days. Cabins scattered across a compound so nobody was on top of each other.

Down time to relax. Good conversations over meals we cooked together on the grill. Cigars around the fire every night. Quiet time to find peace.  And the space to allow greatness to emerge.

What happened was magic.

By Sunday afternoon, one guy said "I've never done anything like this."

Another said "this isn't just what I needed, you men are WHO I needed."

A third said "I've been to dozens of masterminds and retreats, this is the first one that has actually changed my life."
